Spirits Class – Alternative Agave

February 28 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Taste and learn about agave spirits beyond the most common Tequila and Oaxacan Mezcal.

The agave is a type of plant perfectly adapted to arid climates – its spiked leaves keep away predators, and its long life cycle allows it to slowly save up energy and moisture. Yet the human being is an animal perfectly adapted to turning sugars into alcohol (with the help of yeast, of course) – and those living near agave found a perfect, rich, complex, and delicious store of these sugars in the heart of the agave plant. While the most famous agave spirits are Tequila, from Jalisco state in Mexico and Mezcal, primarily from Oaxaca state, many different spirits are produced anywhere agave flourishes.

In this class, we will explore agave beyond Tequila and Mezcal, and indeed, beyond Mexico. Expect to sample and learn about the many regional specialties of Mexican distilling, but also how other parts of the world are using agave plants to create distinctive spirits of their own. Come explore the wonderful world of agave distillation in its many and ever-growing forms.

Must be 21+ to attend.
