Cocktail Class – Make the Best of Bitters
Those little bottles that are added to cocktails in dashes and drops must be the most mysterious part of mixing drinks. While the seasoned home bartender may feel comfortable deploying the ubiquitous Angostura Bitters, along with the commonly called for Orange and Peychauds varieties, the plethora of other bitters do not often make the home bar repertoire. With flavor profiles all over the map – from floral to spicy, herbal to savory – the bitters offer a tantalizing promise of flavor, but research will often reveal scant few recipes for the most esoteric bottles.
In this class, Evan Christie will explore beyond the most common bottles of bitters and create cocktails to feature some of our most interesting examples. Expect dashes of complex, unusual, and savory flavors popping up in many different types of mixed drinks. Learn how to approach a new bottle of bitters, figure out the cocktails that will make it shine, and leave the imbibers satisfied.
