FARGO, ND — The Somali Heritage Celebration is set to take place on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Broadway Square in Downtown Fargo. The free, family-friendly event is open to the public and aims to highlight Somali culture.
Organized by ESHARA and its partners, the celebration will feature traditional Somali music and dance performances, authentic Somali cuisine, and interactive activities. A cultural display will also be available, showcasing historical artifacts and stories of the Somali people.
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney is scheduled to present a proclamation recognizing Somali Heritage Day at 5:00 PM. The proclamation will acknowledge the contributions of Somali Americans to the Fargo-Moorhead region.
Ahmed Makaraan, Executive Director of ESHARA, stated, “This celebration isn’t just for the Somali community—it’s for all of us. It’s a chance to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Fargo-Moorhead stronger.”
Fowzia Adde, Executive Director of the International Development Center, added, “By celebrating Somali heritage in Fargo-Moorhead, we highlight the resilience and contributions of Somali New Americans—while also creating space for cross-cultural connection.”
