FARGO, N.D. — The annual community event Miles for Kids will return on Thursday, October 2, and Friday, October 3, 2025, to honor the legacy of beloved community leader Mark Knutson and raise funds for the Shoes for Kids nonprofit initiative.
This year’s two-day event will feature runner Houston Lindell attempting an extraordinary challenge: running 100 miles across every school in the Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo school districts. As Lindell visits each location, he will be greeted by thousands of local students offering high-fives and encouragement. The run is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Clara Barton Elementary School in Fargo.
Miles for Kids was initially created as a tribute to Mark Knutson, who was a passionate advocate for youth wellness. The event continues to support Knutson’s mission of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be active and thrive.
The run serves as the primary fundraiser for Shoes for Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to providing new, high-quality footwear to area children in need. According to the organization, a donation of $30 is enough to provide one pair of shoes to a local child.
James Botnen, a Shoes for Kids Board Member, emphasized the event’s broader significance, stating, “It’s a celebration of community, hope, and the belief that every child deserves to start their journey with confidence — and that starts with a good pair of shoes.”
Community members are invited to cheer on Lindell along the route or contribute by donating online at the Giving Hearts Day platform.
