Last updated:

FARGO, ND – October 14, 2025 – The Furniture Mission of the Red River Valley (FMRRV), a faith-based non-profit serving Cass and Clay counties, is preparing to host its 2nd Annual Musical Chairs Tournament and Dessert Social fundraiser on Thursday, October 23rd. The event aims to generate both funds and awareness to support the organization’s mission of providing essential home furnishings to local families in crisis.

The tournament will be held at the Holiday Inn Fargo, located at 3803 13th Ave S. Doors are scheduled to open at 3:00 PM, with a welcome address at 3:30 PM. Attendees can anticipate an afternoon of spirited competition, complete with a live DJ, a cash bar, and desserts provided by Back Cat Bakery.

Tickets to participate in the musical chairs tournament as a competitor are $100, while tickets for spectators are $50. Tickets can be purchased online through the organization’s website.

“Last year this event was so fun, and ended up being one of our highlights for the year,” remarked Jordan McCormick, Executive Director of FMRRV. “We’re hoping this year will be a little bigger to help us raise some dollars and awareness for our work in the community.”

Furnishing New Beginnings for Local Families

FMRRV was founded in 2020 after identifying a significant issue of furniture insecurity in the community. The organization operates by collecting gently used furniture donations and “regifting” them to families and individuals transitioning out of crisis. Clients are referred to the mission through a network of over 40 local human services agencies, including the YWCA, Churches United, Salvation Army, and ShareHouse.

Since its founding, FMRRV has accumulated a substantial record of impact, according to statistics provided on its website:

  • 2,771 families served.
  • 35,115 pieces of furniture gifted to families.
  • 22,000 volunteer hours contributed to the mission.

The organization accepts gently used items such as mattresses, box springs, couches, chairs, tables, and dressers. Beyond attending the musical chairs tournament, the community can support FMRRV through financial contributions, furniture donations, or by volunteering. Furniture drop-offs are accepted at the FMRRV warehouse, located at 2600 3rd Avenue North in Fargo, every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
