Word Dances: Poetry in Motion

Word Dances: Poetry in Motion combines modern dance with selections from local dancer-poet Katie Bruckbauer’s new book, Time to Soar: Word Dances and Bird Songs for Every Season. The dances are choreographed and performed by Bruckbauer and fellow dancer, Barb Wieland, along with a small ensemble of local dancers. Bruckbauer and Wieland were performing dancers and instructors for almost 30 years at two former Fargo dance studios, Mahkahta Dance Theater and 8th Street Studio of Dance, of which they were part owners.

Bruckbauer’s poetry has been described by readers as both “profound and whimsical.” She says her poetry is meant to “inspire, uplift, and delight with messages of hope, joy, love, peace, and healing.” The performance, she says, will be a unique fusion of poetry, art, and dance. All ages are welcome; 10+ advised.

Bruckbauer’s new book, Time to Soar: Word Dances and Bird Songs for Every Season, is a delightful, fully illustrated book of poetry that explores the human condition and takes readers on a spiritual journey through the ups and downs of life. Birds and nature provide the companions that provide insights into coping, accepting, and finding joy.

Books will be available for purchase after the performance, along with book signings by the author as well as the illustrator, Mary Jo Savageau.
