Umoja 54 MLK Day Celebration

January 16, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Freds Dissonance continues to emphasize the issues King pursued in the final years of his life, as Umoja in Swahili means Unity, and it has been 54 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death. Let us use our collective power to reflect, learn, grow, and unite. The theme for this year is “Prelude to a legacy.”

As a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Freds Dissonance proposes a community event centered on young people and storytelling. Using their talents and gifts, the Umoja Writing Workshop youth will present a timeline of the life, legacy, and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King. The event will feature performances by local performers, poets, singers, and dancers. As we celebrate Umoja 54, we will laugh, cry, and join together with the help of the community, and with the help of our community partners, we will see a prelude to a lasting legacy.
