Spirits Class – Rum: Oak & Age

March 9, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
Taste and learn about rum, and how age and time in oak impact its many flavors with instructor Evan Christie.

Rum, unlike whiskey, can be a beautifully balanced and flavorful beverage without ever seeing an oak barrel. Yet the magic of oak aging plays just as well with spirits of sugarcane as with those of grape or grain. Especially when aged in hot and humid climates, rums can take on intense barrel character but still retain the expressive qualities generated earlier in the fermentation and distillation processes.

In this class, you will explore the effect of oak and age on rums by tasting rums from many different locations and producers, each seeing different aging regimens. Each rum will showcase the distiller’s unique intent and style, from the rich and funky to the bright and lively. Expect to taste a broad spectrum of flavors and learn which come from oak, which from others sources, and how these all interact over time to produce the distinct flavor of each rum. Join us for this delicious and varied tasting experience.

Must be 21+ to attend.
