February 25, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Italian for bitter, Amari (the plural of Amaro) are a broad category of bittersweet liqueurs, flavored with all manner of herbs, flowers, roots, seeds, fruit, spice, and peels. The term can either be used narrowly to designate traditional dark-colored Italian varieties calibrated for after-dinner drinking, or broadly, encompassing spirits from many cultures and traditions that sharing a primarily bittersweet balance as a defining characteristic. Amari may be made with distilled spirits or wine. They may be flavored with many dozens of ingredients or just a small selection. However they are defined or made, the large category means each Amaro is a wonderfully unique creation.
In this class, Evan Christie will take you on a survey of the fascinating world of the Amaro, highlighting classic substyles and examining both classic and more modern examples. You will learn about the history, culture, and tradition that surrounds these spirits, how they are made, and how they are commonly consumed.
