This event is part of the One Book, One Community event series

As part of the 2023 One Book, One Community reading project, the Fargo Public Library will host a canoeing presentation by area outdoor enthusiast Rollie Johnson on Tuesday, Sept. 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Main Library.

Johnson will share his experiences of building wooden canoes and taking them on several trips with groups to northern Minnesota and Montana. As part of his presentation, he will share his experience as a high school student who started his lifelong love of the outdoors and exploring by taking part in an Expeditions of North America trip in the summer of 1977. A high schooler at the time, along with two leaders and six other teenage boys, Johnson left Crane Lake, Minnesota, and paddled 1,300 miles over 70 days to reach the Churchill River in Canada. It turned out to be one of the greatest adventures of his life. Canoes will be on display, weather permitting, as part of this event. The event is open to all ages.
