UNITE by EPIC Breaks Ground in Downtown Fargo

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, EPIC Companies hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the UNITE project at 1 2nd St S in Fargo. UNITE is a master-planned mixed-use development that will be the third phase of Fargo’s Gateway Center.

The development will consist of a seven-story building featuring commercial space on the main level, underground parking, and residential units on the upper floors. The objective behind this project is to establish both outdoor and indoor public areas for the community’s benefit, fostering a sense of unity between the cities of Moorhead, MN, and Fargo, ND.

“UNITE is a project we have been excited to add to the growing downtown Fargo area and bring full circle our Gateway Center development,” said McKenzy Braaten, Chief Communications Officer at EPIC Companies. “It will bring a variety of space to that side of downtown that will further enhance the accessibility of the area.”

Speakers at the groundbreaking included Mayor Tim Mahoney, Carrie Austin (daughter of Denis Olson – previous owner of the Gateway development), and EPIC Companies representatives. Honored guests included Jill Olson and James Olson, children of Denis Olson.

“This beautiful project will serve as a gateway to the west and is located right at the front doors of our city,” said Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney. “We are excited to highlight some of the recreational and tourist opportunities in Fargo as this project is being built adjacent to trails along the river and within a short distance to the center of Downtown Fargo.”

The City of Fargo granted EPIC the rights to develop the land in 2022. The construction phase has started and is expected to be completed by spring 2025. UNITE will feature 16 condos, 30 apartments, 18,000 square feet of commercial space, interior parking, and public community space.
