New Nordic Cuisine Exhibition Opens At The Hjemkomst Center

The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County presents New Nordic Cuisine a traveling exhibition from the Museum of Danish America at the Hjemkomst Center. The exhibition will be on display on the 3rd -floor gallery from Saturday, November 20, until Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Food is one aspect of a tradition that is passed down many generations. To carry out this tradition, a group of Nordic chefs created a new vision for Nordic cuisine to prevent their local history and heritage from being lost. New Nordic cuisine is transforming culinary landscape by focusing on the local production of ingredients instead of the international, and packaged foods. Now new Nordic cuisine is an award-winning cuisine that is still becoming one of the most influential food cultures around the world.

The New Nordic Cuisine exhibit consists of themes such as traditional recipes and restaurant culture through an interactive experience. The exhibit also includes new unique twists to the more dated recipes in Nordic tradition and how Nordic cuisine influences other cultures globally as well.

This travelling exhibit was curated by historian Tova Brandt who invites exhibition audiences to “explore the values that bring together traditional flavors, local producers, and innovative techniques.” To learn more, visit the Nordic Cuisine YouTube Channel

Museum hours are Mon.-Sat. 9am to 5pm, Tuesday nights 5-8pm through December, and Sun. 12-5pm.
