Opening Reception of “Me, Myself, and the Darkness,” by Johnathan Campbell
June 15, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreePlease join us at the Spirit Room for the celebration of Johnathan Campbell’s “Me, Myself, and the Darkness,” a collection of long exposure photography integrating light and movement to explore the mystical world just beyond our natural realm.
Infused with a love of darkroom photography by his mother at a young age Johnathan Campbell pursued and obtained a BA in Visual Arts from the University of North Dakota in 1995. After a brief hiatus (during which he worked as a fossil preparer for the North Dakota Heritage Center,) Johnathan returned to his photographic love, exploring nightscape photography and creative light painting. He has been an engaged member with the Bismarck Downtown Artist Cooperative, and a recipient of Artist in Residence twice with the North Dakota State Parks. Johnathan says that “a tree, man-made intrusions on the landscape, or just the stars above that light the night are my sources of inspiration to dance in the dark, to turn my camera into a canvas.”
The reception will be held on Thursday, June 15th at 5:00 p.m. Food and drinks will be available, and the event is open and free to the public. For those unable to attend in person the artist talks will be streamed through Facebook Live, and a gallery walk through will take place afterwards. Johnathan will also be demonstrating his light painting technique during the event.
“Me, Myself, and the Darkness” is made possible through funding in part by North Dakota Council on the Arts and the Arts Partnership.
