From traditional Thai dishes to northern Thai classics and fusion blends, ThaiKota brings an explosion of regional flavors to downtown Fargo.
Former Wasabi head chef TJ Edra and his wife Gina recently brought life to their longtime dream of owning their own restaurant. ThaiKota offers regional flavors and recipes that are authentic, approachable and downright delicious.
Edra explains all of the curry pastes and powders that the restaurant uses are imported directly from his wife’s hometown in north Thailand, Chiang Rai, which is what makes the food extra special.
“My menu was based on her style of cooking and some of my favorites that she makes for me at home so we try to do things different, and we do everything ourselves,” says Edra. “We have some basic Thai dishes and some stuff people are familiar with, but everything else is pretty original.”
It’s no secret that plenty of other Thai restaurants exist in the area, but everything that comes from this husband-and-wife-ran establishment is made from scratch and with a little bit of love.
“I wanted to be a little different than the other Thai restaurants in town, but I don’t want to compare or compete with them,” Edra said.
Whether it’s a must-have papaya salad, curry noodles or even the classic Pad Thai, ThaiKota will impress all types of taste buds. Food is available for take-out from 11am to 8pm Monday through Saturday, or you can order food online and eat in-house. The restaurant is socially-distanced if you choose to enjoy your meal there, or you can also get food via DoorDash and other food delivery platforms. What will you order first?
