Wine Class – Women Winemakers
March 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
Winemaking has long been a profession dominated by men. With a few notable exceptions, the roles of women in wineries, especially traditional European ones, have been primarily hospitality and bookkeeping, while the vineyards and cellar have been the province of men. Thankfully for all of us, this has begun to change dramatically in the last few decades due to the defiant and pioneering spirit of female winemakers around the world. Once a rarity, it is now common, if not routine, to see women at the head of the world’s most prestigious and sought-after wineries.
In this class, Anita Bender will lead you on an exploration of women winemakers. Expect to taste wine from all over the world, showcasing the talents of female winemakers old and young. Some have taken over operations handed down through generations while others are forging a new path, unencumbered by historic strictures or practices. Whatever their background, the women featured in this class are making wine of exceptional quality, which you can enjoy while learning all about their distinct journeys.
