Wine Class – Eccentric Winemakers

January 20, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
Learn about how some of the most interesting winemakers out there approach their craft, and taste what this means for their wine.

Winemaking is both an art and a science, and as both those disciplines go, a maddening form of each. No amount of work by a winemaker can obscure the fact that it is a process dependent on the whims of the weather and the idiosyncratic behavior of tiny microorganisms doing the actual work of fermentation. This is accompanied by the deepest of ironies: the more one attempts to control the uncontrollable, the worse the final product. It takes a special kind of madness to want to make wine for a living, and it is that we seek to explore in the class – those most eccentric of winemakers who truly turn their craft into a beautiful obsession.

In this class, Anita Bender will explore wines made by some of our favorite winemakers – those whose unique, iconoclastic, or down right crazy approaches to the business of making wine brings us delight. These wines will come from all around the world, be made from many different grapes, and feature different styles. What they will share in that spark that can only come from being made with passion. Join us to taste these wines and discover the amazing people behind them.
