Wine Class – Beaujolais
February 17 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
Beaujolais, when it is thought of at all by wine lovers, is too often considered the unserious cousin of Burgundy. While it’s neighbor to the north is one of the world’s premier wine regions, growing those crown jewels of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Beaujolais humbly offers mostly Gamay and is familiar mostly for Beaujolais Nouveau, a simple, fruity, young wine. Yet any wine lover who digs more deeply finds that Beaujolais, especially the high quality Cru Beaujolias, offers wines every bit as serious, complex, and delicious as Burgundy, often at a fractions of the cost.
In this class, Anita Bender will lead you on an exploration of all Beaujolais has to offer, ranging from Villages-level wines to several Cru Beaujolias, each with their own unique flavor profile, and maybe even some white or rosés thrown into the mix. Expect to taste wines that can be fruity and mineral-driven, delightfully simple, and achingly complex. Join us for this deep dive into a less-heralded region.
