Whiskey Class – Cask Finished Rye

March 18, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Taste and learn about Rye Whiskies finished in a variety of different casks.

Like its more popular cousin Bourbon, American Rye Whiskey must be aged in first-use American white oak if it wants to be labeled as such. Enterprising producers in the last couple decades have figured out this regulation in no way precludes using another type of cask after the new cask was used, a process often referred to as “finishing.” While Bourbons with different cask finishes have grown more common, Rye whiskey has seen, if anything, a greater proliferation of cask-finished products.

In this class, Evan Christie will lead you through some of the best examples of cask-finished ryes. Expect Ryes finished in ex-wine casks, ex-spirit casks, and just about anything that whiskey can be aged in. See how the spicy, bold flavor of rye whiskey is enhanced, moderated, or generally changed with the application of a cask finish. This class will showcase a broad array of flavors and characteristics in the whiskeys presented.

Must be 21+ to attend.
