Spirits Class – Amaro: A Tour of Italy
May 11 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The term Amaro has come to refer to a whole category of bittersweet liqueurs, traditional and modern, from all around the globe. Though the term has become genericized in this way, it is important to remember the roots of amaro in Italian culture. For it was the dominant presence of Italian amari (the plural of amaro) that allowed this terminology to subsume so many others. The Italians love their amari, and we in turn, love them for it.
In this class, we will explore amari from all across Italy. From the alpine herbs of northern Italy to the citrus groves of the south, the botanical diversity of Italy is deeply reflected in the diversity of the Amaro. You will taste some spirits that are household names, while others are obscure regional specialties. Each will reflect a different aspect of the Italian landscape, both natural and commercial. Every amaro is unique, so while it is impossible to talk about strict styles, you will see how each reflects a sense of place, time, and those who created it. Join us for this exciting tour of Italian flavor and tradition!
Must be 21+ to attend.
