MLK Day Celebration – Umoja 55
January 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeFred’s Dissonance propose to offer a youth performance based event on behalf of the City of Fargo Human Rights Commission, to produce Umoja 55 MLK Day Celebration, a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration, at the Fargo Theater, on Monday, January 15, 2024, 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
Purpose
To celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., highlight the work of partners and Fargo’s Human Rights Commission to continue MLK’s legacy.
Umoja 55: Dreamers Unite is a two-hour event that celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through an Afro-Futuristic lens. The event showcases the power of dreams, unity, and hope, particularly among the youth, as they present their artistic interpretations of MLK’s vision.
In the 55 years since Dr. King’s death, our nation continues to advocate for equity, anti-poverty initiatives, and improved education. The youth from the Umoja program lead the challenge for MLK’s life and legacy. Umoja, a Swahili word meaning unity, embodies the support needed to progress and propel our community towards positive change.
