Tuscany. The name invokes images of rolling hills with beautifully villas surrounded by vineyards. This region is well-known for producing some of the most well-known and well regarded wines from Italy. Historically, the region has been most known for producing wines from the Sangiovese grape, in many of the traditional regions such as Chianti, Montepulciano, and Montalcino. However, many Tuscan winemakers have begun to plant French varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, leading to a new style of wines called Super Tuscans, some of the best of which have become the highest regarded wines in all of Italy, with prestige names like Tignanello and Sassicaia.
