Cocktail Class – Golden Age Cocktails Part 2
November 16, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Golden Age of American Cocktails stretched from the middle of the 19th century all the way to the start of prohibition in 1919. In this vast era, drinks evolved from their early forms as set down in Jerry Thomas’s 1862 classic Bar Tender’s Guide to much more modern forms we would easily recognize today in the works of early 20th century bartenders. While most drinks in the earlier period had names that paid homage to their structural origins such as old-fashioned, fancy, and improved, cocktails, sangarees, negus, fizzes, and juleps, the latter part of the era often saw drinks named for places, people, and pieces of popular culture.
In this class, Evan Christie will mix up drinks created in the later part of the Golden Age from roughly 1900 to 1919. Many of these drinks will be recognizable classics, though attendees can expect a few forgotten favorites to make their way in as well. You will learn the history of these recipes and ingredients as well as how to mix them up yourself. Come join us for a historically good time.
