What:  Please join us at the Spirit Room in Lotus Studio for the exhibition of Annett Richter’s “A New Journey in Color: Alcohol Inks on Yupo Paper,” an explosive colorful collection of abstract alcohol ink paintings.

Annett Richter is a visual artist, photographer, teacher, writer, editor, translator, and musician. Her alcohol ink paintings have been on view in the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s 2021 “Foot in the Door 5: A Virtual Exhibition”; The Arts Partnership’s “Virtual Catalog to Fill Blank Spaces” project, and at galleries, coffeeshops, and libraries in Fargo; the Lake Region Arts Council’s 2023 Brian Frink Guest Juror Exhibit (Fergus Falls, Minnesota); and in multi-media artist Jo Verdis’s On Earth I am Safe (ebook, 2022). Her paintings and photographs have been featured online with Red Bluff Gallery (Red Bluff, California), with Gallerium Art Exhibitions (Toronto, Canada), and in the French-Canadian art magazine Artistonish presenting works by artists from across the world. Her painting Follow the Light, selected by Tri-College University and The Arts Partnership in Fargo-Moorhead, was recently installed as her first work of public art on the utility box at the corner of 12th Ave S and 8th St on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead. Annett holds degrees in music, American studies, and teaching German as a second language. She has taught at Concordia College, MSUM, NDSU, and the University of Missouri–Columbia. Her research as a scholar focuses on intersections between music and the visual arts. She lives in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Through her work with alcohol inks, Annett explores themes of hope, courage, coexistence, and nature. She finds herself motivated by the vibrant colors that merge and mingle in unpredictable ways on the page. Their resulting nuanced colors have inspired interpretations individual to each viewer, a practice she openly encourages. Through her images, she seeks to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds and enrich their lives with abstract compositions that offer a refreshing and uplifting experience for mind and soul. The creative process with alcohol inks resembles life’s colorful journeys.

“A New Journey in Color: Alcohol Inks on Yupo Paper,” is made possible through funding in part by North Dakota Council on the Arts and the Arts Partnership.
