Fargo Community Invited to Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15

The inclusive, family-friendly event in Broadway Square will feature live performances, virtual reality and a Black History scavenger hunt

FARGO, ND – The City of Fargo’s Human Rights Commission is collaborating with the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Office to sponsor a local Juneteenth celebration, curated by the community group Fred’s Dissonance. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from noon to 6 p.m. in Broadway Square in Downtown Fargo.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. The holiday was first celebrated on June 19, 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Participants of all backgrounds are invited to take part in this year’s festivities in Fargo, which will include education, volunteerism, art, live performances, virtual reality and a Black History scavenger hunt. The event will showcase the talents of local Black and Brown artists. Free food will be available for children under 16 years old. For more information, visit FredsDissonance.com/Juneteenth24.

On April 15, 2024, the City Commission voted unanimously to approve The City of Fargo’s sponsorship of the event, up to $15,000. Fred’s Dissonance, as it has done in past years, intends to receive financial and in-kind sponsorship from community partners to offset the cost to The City of Fargo.

Fargo City Hall and the Spirit of the Sandbagger monument will be illuminated in celebration of Juneteenth on the evening of Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
