Whiskey Class – American Single Malt
April 15, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
The newest official category of American Whiskey is here! Or, at least the regulations have finally caught up with what distillers have been producing for years. Traditionally, single-malt whiskey – produced from 100% malted barley at a single distillery – has been the star product of Scotland and a major part of the whiskey industries of Ireland, Japan, India, Taiwan, and many other locations. America has largely remained wedded to whiskey made from grains, be it corn, rye, or wheat; however, the boom in craft distillers in the last few decades has led to a drastic increase in the production of malt whiskey in America.
In this class, Evan Christie will explore the landscape of American Single Malt whiskey, from producers that have pioneered the category to upstart distillers just joining the fray to experienced grain whiskey makers dipping their toe in the whiskey, so to speak. Expect to experience a wide range of flavors from mellow, gentle malts to aggressive, well-oaked powerhouses. Plan to taste spirits that hail from all around the United States from all sorts of producers. Come and see why the American Single Malt category is poised for explosive and exciting growth.
Must be 21+ to attend.
