First Fridays @ 701
March 3, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am
FreeWith a rural and urban focus, The PRAIRIE institute’s mission is to unite compassionate hearts and skills from many cultures for a renewal of health, agriculture, and community and restoring health and vitality to people, animals, plants, and the earth. Join us on March 3 to learn all about the work of PRAIRIE – a folk school, farm incubator, and Prairie Rose Farm, and their vision for the future.
Working toward a goal of improving human health, environmental stewardship, farmland preservation, and education in sustainable agriculture, Verna Kragnes Director of Research & Innovation and Interim Executive Director of PRAIRIE, strives to ensure farmers’ voices are heard while fostering a connection to our earth. She will share the history of and vision for PRAIRIE, which stands for Prairie Rose Agricultural Institute for Research, Innovation, and Education.
Mason Berube, Farm Intern will share his experience working at PRAIRIE where growing methods are at a scale anyone can replicate, and how to sell direct to consumers – a true farm-to-table operation.
Lastly, Noelle Harden, Ally and Founding Board Member of PRAIRIE, will provide reflections from farmers on what it has meant to access land, grow food utilizing their traditional crops and methods, and support the community through produce. Additionally, Noelle will discuss her relationship with PRAIRIE and how it’s helped her advocate for innovative farming practices and the connection between extension offices within our agriculture network.
Join us at 701 Eateries on Friday, March 3. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. with FREE Thunder Coffee and the program kicks off at 8 a.m. Free and open to all.
