Without any prior fame, this unlikely duo from the South quickly became fan favorites on “Idol,” helping to skyrocket the show’s popularity. The viewership nearly tripled from the previous season, and the finale drew in a record-breaking 38 million viewers who had cast over 124 million votes. This made it the most-watched episode in “Idol” history and the highest-rated live non-sports TV episode of the 21st century. Together, they have released 12 albums, sold over 8 million copies worldwide, toured the US 14 times, starred in a Broadway show, and won four Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award. Furthermore, they have been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards.
Aiken made history as the first Idol alum to achieve three major milestones in the music industry. His debut single topped the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, was certified platinum and his album, “Measure Of A Man”, was certified triple platinum and debuted at #1 with the highest first-week sales by a debut artist. Studdard, the winner of the second season of “American Idol”, earned a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his hit song “Superstar” in December 2003. He has released six studio albums, including the platinum-selling “Soulful” and the top-selling gospel album “I Need an Angel”. Some of his most popular hits include “Sorry 2004” and “Change Me”.
