The Fargo Theatre and YWCA Cass Clay are pleased to announce a special partnership inspired by a new movie – a sanitary products drive. Based on the beloved Judy Blume novel, the film Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret opens in cinemas across the country on April 28.

The touching coming-of-age story follows an 11-year-old girl as she navigates all the complications of adolescence including the arrival of her first menstrual period. Starring Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret, this timeless, coming-of-age story has transcended decades and spoken to generations.

In the movie, Margaret is moving to a new town and beginning to contemplate everything about life, friendship, and adolescence. She relies on her mother (McAdams), who offers loving support but is herself finding her own footing in a new place, and her grandmother Sylvia (Bates), who is coming to terms with finding happiness in the next phase of her life. For all three, questions of identity, one’s place in the world, and what brings meaning to a life will draw them closer together than ever before.

To celebrate this timeless and universal story, the Fargo Theatre will hold a sanitary products drive on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29. Anyone bringing a donation of an unopened box of tampons or maxi pads will receive a free small popcorn. Donated sanitary products will go to individuals served by YWCA Cass Clay.

“So often, women arriving at YWCA Emergency Shelter are escaping violence and homelessness with nothing but the clothes on their back,” says YWCA Communications Manager, Allison Pillar. “Community donations of hygiene items like tampons and pads make a huge difference for those we serve. Only once basic needs are met, can people focus on what comes next on their journey toward empowerment and independence.”
