Dancy Party Reunion: A Salute To Buddy Holly and Friends is scheduled to appear on the Fargo Theatre stage on Friday, February 3, 2022. Tickets went on sale on Friday, August 19th.
Dance Party Reunion is a ‘re-staging’ of Buddy Holly’s 1959 Winter Dance Party, featuring music of Holly’s co-stars, Ritchie Valens (“La Bamba”, performed by Allen Malicsi); Dion & the Belmonts (with Brian Pekol, singing “Teenager in Love”), The Big Bopper (“Chantilly Lace”, featuring Zach Spicer) and Frankie Sardo (“Fake Out”, featuring a local singer).
In January of 1959 Buddy Holly, Dion and the Belmonts, Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper, and Frankie Sardo set out on a twenty-four-day tour of the mid-western United States. For Holly, Richardson, and Valens, the tour would end in disaster on February 3, 1959. All three would die in their charter plane crash on the way to the tour’s next stop in Moorhead. The Winter Dance Party is characterized as “The Day the Music Died” in Don McLean’s song “American Pie.”
A stellar tribute to the music of American rock and roll icon Buddy Holly, Dancy Party Reunion features the original cast members (Nicholas Freeman, Blake Foster and Spicer) from History Theatre’s IVEY-award-winning production of Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story. Endorsed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison of The Crickets.
