2020 St. Patrick’s Day Fargo-Moorhead Celebration Guide

For residents of Fargo-Moorhead, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations mark the changing of the seasons as we move from winter to spring. While Scandanavian and German heritage are in abundance in the region, everyone seems to find a long-lost Irish ancestor (real or imagined) to celebrate for the day.

Here’s our rundown of St. Patrick’s festivities and events to help you take part in observing the holiday.

Canceled: Fargo-Moorhead St. Patrick’s Parade
Downtown Moorhead and Fargo | 11:00 am

[alert type=red ]The 24th annual St. Patrick’s Parade in Downtown Fargo-Moorhead has been canceled. With the wellbeing of spectators, parade participants, volunteers and the community being the primary focus, the Downtown Community Partnership (DCP) has made the decision to cancel this year’s parade based on the heightened concerns of the potential risk of spreading the COVID-19 in mass gatherings around events.

 

Many other events around the holiday are being canceled as well. Always check before attending.[/alert]

The Downtown Fargo Community Partnership and Moorhead Business Association are partnering up with the 814 businesses to throw an unforgettable St. Patrick’s celebration, so join the party, grab some chairs, and be the first people to see all of the floats as the parade kicks off at Center Ave. & 8th St. in Moorhead.

Canceled: Irish Warming House
Loretta Building, 210 Broadway N, Fargo, ND 58102 | 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join the Downtown Community Partnership before and during the 2020 Fargo-Moorhead St. Patrick’s Parade in Downtown Fargo for some extra family fun! Warm-up inside the Loretta building and enjoy a photo booth, coffee & cocoa, and kid-friendly activities.

St. Patrick’s Day 5K/10K/Kids Run
Downtown Moorhead and Fargo | 10:30 am to 1:30 pm

The Annual Lake Agassiz Pacers St Patrick’s Day 5K/10K & Kids Run will lead the Annual St Patricks Day parade through Moorhead and Fargo. The Lake Agassiz Pacers will host all participants after the events for some food, drink and awards ceremony.

Downtown Fargo Bars | 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm

The 8th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl is the original and longest-running St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl in Fargo-Moorhead! Start at any of our participating bars to get your pub crawl mug ($5.50 for your initial mug filled with beer) and passport.

Pub Crawl Locations: Fort Noks Bar of Gold, Sports Bar – Downtown Fargo, The Bomb Shelter, Old Broadway, Rooter’s Bar, Würst Bier Hall Downtown Fargo, Sidestreet Grille & Pub, Pickled Parrot, Rhombus Guys – Fargo, and Cowboy Jack’s.

Dempsey’s St. Patrick’s Celebration with Poitin
Dempsey’s Public House, 226 Broadway N, Fargo, ND 58102 | 10:00 am to close

Come down to Dempsey’s after the parade and enjoy some traditional Irish music to celebrate! Dempsey’s House Irish Band Poitin will be playing two sets with the party going on all day!

Tom Collins & The Whiskey Bandits
Front Street Taproom, 614 Main Ave., Fargo, ND 58103

Tom Collins and the Whiskey Bandits have been spotted occasionally in the Fargo/Moorhead area for the last several years. From time to time, they emerge from hiding to entertain fine folks with their blend of traditional and modern Irish music. This year they are bringing the party to Front Street taproom on March 14th in observance of St Patrick’s day.

Let Junkyard Brewing Co. save you from green beer in plastic cups! All evening they’ll be pouring their Bleed Green Irish Stout (not actually green), a dry yet chocolatey traditional Irish stout. If you stick around into the evening, they’ll be playing Irish tunes throughout the taproom.

17th Annual Celtic Festival
Hjemkomst Center, 202 1st Ave N, Moorhead, MN 56560 | 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The 17th Annual Celtic Festival is a celebration of the rich culture of the seven Celtic Nations featuring the intriguing history, arts, and traditions of Brittany, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Galicia, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Enjoy lyrical Celtic music played by great bands from the community and region. Watch dancers’ impressive footwork. The festival features an entertainment stage, several presentations about folk traditions of the past and present, activities booths and Celtic foods.

All exhibits, performances, and activities are free except for the Activity Passport ($3). The Activity Passport is the key to many of the craft stations and once completed can be turned in for a prize.
