8th Annual Derby For The Vets Coming To VFW In February

The 8th Annual Derby for the Vets Adult Pinewood Derby will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 12 PM – 3:30 PM at the downtown Fargo VFW Club – Post 762.

The 2020 Derby for the Vets takes place at the downtown Fargo VFW on February 15th.

Organizer Dan Jacobson says the Derby marks the official end of winter cabin fever each year in Fargo. With all the fanfare of a national race event, the opening ceremonies set the tone for the afternoon with the VFW Color Guard, followed by the national anthem, and messages from the Post Chaplin and Grand Marshal.

With cameras rolling and the action live-streamed to the world, the race is on. First up is the Mayor’s Challenge, which has truly has turned into an epic battle between Fargo 2019 Champion West Fargo and the cities of  Moorhead and hard charger Dilworth. This class is open to any and all mayors.

The Battle of the Brands class has taken on a life of its own with race cars decked out with company logos as a team-building show-off your brand on the track.

Derby for the Vets is the Championship competition class that has been limited to 4 winners in seven years. We have some new challengers for 2020.

The Commanders Cup, created in 2019, is open to any and all past or present Commanders of any veterans group. The Fargo VFW is the defending Champion.

The event also features both silent and live auctions, with donated items from the local business community and private donors. Last year there were over 200 items.

For a minimum tax-deductible donation of $500, event partners have their logo placed on the annual collector posters. Race entry is $20 per class which includes a pinewood derby car kit.

Derby for the Vets has raised over $65,000 for the Fargo VA Healthcare System and the VFW Auxiliary.

The Derby for the Vets is has raised over $65,000 over the years, with all proceeds going to the Fargo VA Healthcare System and the VFW Auxiliary. Jacobson likes to say the Derby puts the FUN in Fundraising.
