Fargo Main Library to host Moon Rock Events June 6 & 7

As part of the summer reading program, the Fargo Public Library will host two space-themed events featuring moon rocks this week.

The first event is the screening of a clip from part one of the PBS American Experience film Chasing the Moon on Thursday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Set in 1961, the clip shows how the space race started gaining momentum. In addition, the Fargo Public Library in partnership with the North Dakota State Library will have moon rocks on display with a certified moon rock specialist on hand to answer questions. This event is open to all ages and registration is not required. For details, contact the Main Library Information Desk at 701.241.1492.

The second event, titled Rockin’ On and Spacin’ Out! is set for Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at the Main Library. Kids of all ages are invited to view the moon rocks and ask questions. In addition to the display, youngsters can stop by the bouncy house space station for a moon walk. Other moon-themed activities will be part of this event which is open to families with children of all ages. All materials will be provided and no pre-registration is required to attend. For details contact the Children’s Services Dept. at 701.241.1495.

Both of these events are made possible, in part, from a grant by NASA.

Fargo Public Library events are free and open to the public. Children age 9 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. For more information regarding the Fargo Public Library and a complete list of upcoming Summer Reading Program events, call 701.241.1472 or visit the online calendar.
