THE CACTUS BLOSSOMS, DUSTY HEART & THE CROPDUSTERS
Blood Harmony. Whether it’s The Beach Boys, Bee Gees or First Aid Kit, that sibling vocal blend is the secret sauce in some of the most spine-tingling moments in popular music. The Cactus Blossoms – Minneapolis-based brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey – offer compelling evidence that this tradition is alive and well, with a deceptively unadorned musical approach that offers “creative turns of phrase, gorgeous harmonies, and an ageless sound” (NPR All Things Considered), not to mention spine tingles aplenty. Their 2016 debut You’re Dreaming, a stunning and transporting collection of original songs, earned high praise from Rolling Stone and Vice Noisey, tour stints with Kacey Musgraves and Lucius, and a perfectly cast performance on the third season of David Lynch’sTwin Peaks. Now their unlikely rise continues with new album Easy Way, to be released on their own label Walkie Talkie Records.
Rich vocal harmonies merge with intimate layers of guitar, fiddle and banjo to define the lush sound of Dusty Heart. Barbara Jean and Molly Dean are two songwriters recognized in their own right for their poetic lyrics and distinct vocal styles that when combined create a powerful and haunting sound that takes on a life of its own.
The Cropdusters are Fargo’s own rotating cast of local musicians performing duo/trio sets in a varying combination of styles and influences.
SATURDAY, JUNE 15, 2019 | 4 P.M. GATES | 6 P.M. SHOW
HAR MAR SUPERSTAR, GREEN/BLUE & DISAPPEAR FOREVER
Sean Tillmann (aka Har Mar Superstar) is an American songwriter / performer who makes R&B / Pop / Soul music. What started as a one-man show in 1999 has grown into a full band revue. Often noted as a premier live act, Tillmann works the crowd and earns his keep with sweat equity. A grueling tour schedule has made this Minneapolis, Minn., outfit a show not to miss. You may have seen Har Mar sing the national anthem at the Twins’ season opener this year; he’s also appeared in Pitch Perfect, Starsky & Hutch and Broad City.
Green/Blue hails from Minneapolis, Minn., and features members of The Soviettes, Awesome Snakes, Birthday Suits and The Blind Shake. Annie Sparrows, who grew up in Fargo, fronts the band. Disappear Forever is from Grand Forks & Fargo, N.D. Their sound has been described as “gloom pop, goth rock, noisey and no wave.”
