Inaugural College Arts Fest celebrates local student artists

This Sunday, a group of talented artists from Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State University gather at Babb’s Coffee House in downtown Fargo for the first-ever College Arts Fest in the community.

College Arts Fest is a pop-up celebration of local student artists produced by PLACE: An Arts Community, a group I formed with a handful of fellow students from Concordia, MSUM and NDSU to give students an opportunity to explore, create and share artistic experiences and foster an active campus arts community.

At the festival, which takes place from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, 36 artists showcase a diverse array of works including paintings, sculptures, embroidery, graphic design, photographs and more for the public to enjoy. To celebrate the performing arts, classical music, musical theatre, film, poetry, and original songs will be performed throughout the whole event.

College Arts Fest will be hosted in the basement of Babb’s Coffee House — an intimate space with a small stage, sea foam green brick walls and a lot of personality.

When planning this, we wanted to be sure that all artists — not just those studying the arts — would be welcome. This festival includes art from first year to graduate students majoring in areas including art, music, pharmacy, anthropology, microbiology, and business.

Our goal of this event is to create a community of student artists in the F-M metro. The music, theatre, and arts departments on each campus are independently so strong and vibrant, and there are incredible student artists that exist outside of those departments. We envision community where student creatives from all areas have a chance to communicate and collaborate with each other, and we hope you will join us on Sunday!
