Pangea—Cultivate Our Cultures, the largest free, family-friendly celebration of cultural diversity in the community will return to the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead this Saturday, November 17, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.
Pangea offers museum visitors the opportunity to explore the world under one roof, learning about the global roots of Fargo-Moorhead through food, music, arts, crafts, stories, and children’s activities. In the auditorium, Pangea offers “Tastes of the World,” where local restaurants and caterers serve heritage foods from around the globe that have made their way to the Red River Valley. Everest Tikka House will serve pakora and chicken tikka masala, the Red River Danes will serve aebleskiver, the Concordia French Club will serve crepes, Adibon will serve sambusas and an African chicken platter, and cooks from Southeast Asia, Africa, Mexico, and Haiti will serve selections ranging from egg rolls, pork tamales, and chicken creole to peanut butter jollof rice, horchata, and mahalabia.
On the mainstage in Heritage Hall, a full day of musicians and dancers will perform traditional musical and dance numbers representing cultures from around the globe. The Buffalo River Singers & Dancers will open the festival at 10:10AM and they’ll be followed by artists including Kwaician El, Ricot Aladin, Roots Mariachi, Heather & Thistle, and the St. John the Divine Episcopal Choir. The raffle winner of the Quilters’ Guild of North Dakota community quilt will be announced on stage at 3:30PM.
Throughout the museum, cultural booths and import vendors will offer a wide variety of learning opportunities and holiday gift options. The 3rd Floor Gallery will provide children’s activities, including a public art project and the Imagination Playground from the Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley. Festival collaborators, community builders, and social service organizations will also be on-hand sharing information with festival visitors.
As a free festival, Pangea also offers free admission to HCSCC’s current exhibitions which include the Science Museum of Minnesota’s RACE: Are We So Different?; the Smithsonian Institute’s Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation; the Human Family’s The World in Fargo-Moorhead; and HCSCC’s locally produced War, Flu, & Fear: World War I and Clay County.
