It’s natural for people to need to seek a ‘silver lining’, especially when a heartbreaking tragedy affects an entire community the way that the 2016 death of FPD Officer Jason Moszer did. When the home where Officer Moszer was killed in the line of duty was torn down to make way for a new Habitat for Humanity home, an opportunity to do something good in his memory brought out the best in Fargo-Moorhead.
The Moszer family, the Fargo PD and many community members joined the partner family to build the home. “Feels good, feels really good, glad we can help someone out, and have something good out of a tragic event,” Jason’s father Dave Moszer told WDAY in October.
Now, the Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity (LAHFH) Hero Build home is complete and a celebration with a home dedication is planned for Thursday, January 18th at 6:00pm.
On that evening, volunteers, donors, Habitat for Humanity representatives, area officials, and, of course, the excited partner family will gather at 308 9th Ave N, Fargo to honor the hard work, the generous financial backing and the community support that made this home possible. A brief ceremony is planned with a tour of the home to follow.
Danielle John and her kids are excited for their next dream to become a reality. After overcoming great tragedy in her own life, Danielle is looking forward to rebuilding her life, thanks to this home and the people who helped build it.
Like all Habitat homeowners, Danielle was required to contribute more than 250 hours of sweat equity, complete a homeowner educational course and repay the cost of the home through a no-profit mortgage. Those payments, along with donations and proceeds from the Restore store in Moorhead, are used to build future homes.
This home is the 57th home built by Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity in Cass and Clay Counites. The home is also sponsored by Wells Fargo, CNH, John Deere, Thomsen Homes, Country Financial, and many more.
The public, neighbors, volunteers, and sponsors are invited to come meet the family, tour the home and pay tribute to Officer Moszer’s memory and look towards the future.
