B-B-BRRR Winter Classic Bike Race Returns for it’s 7th Year

Fargo’s favorite winter bike ride, the aptly named B-B-BRRR (Border Battle Bike Race on the Red River) Winter Classic is a one of kind bike race, embracing the frosty winter season and celebrating our love of biking.

The seventh annual B-B-BRRR Winter Classic is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, January 29th at 1:30pm. The 10K course begins in Wildflower Grove Park, just south of Oak Grove Park, and takes riders of all abilities through a variety of terrain; pedaling across bike paths, prairie tundra and the frozen Red River of the North. The route for this race is dependent on weather conditions, but regardless of the weather, the race will go on!

New to B-B-BRRR this year is a 5K Fun Ride for beginner riders to jump in and experience the thrill and chill. Riders in the 5K Fun Ride will see a running timer, but finish times are not recorded. The 10K racers will have access to recorded finish time and place (10K cut-off time is 1 hour). Outdoor activities will also be available for kiddos who come out to enjoy the event with their families.

Riders in our region are choosing to embrace the cold and icy touch of winter, extending their ride season beyond our fairer months. The bicycle industry has responded and grown its offerings to allow riders to enjoy being outdoors in the winter on a bike. Fatbikes, technical gear and accessories have helped make winter pedaling more approachable and viable to riders. Co-owner of Great Northern Bicycle Co. Tom Smith shares, “You can’t fight winter, so get out and embrace it!”

B-B-BRRR Registration is already open online at gncycles.com/events with an early bird entry fee of $25 on or before January 26 ($35 afterward). Race day registration is accepted 12-1pm. Riders can participate in either the Slim Bike (tires less than 2.5 inches wide) or the Fat Bike category. Experience is not required to ride, but helmets are. All ages are welcome to participate in this great ride! A post ride celebration and award ceremony will be held indoors at Great Northern Bicycle Company located at 425 Broadway in downtown Fargo. All racers receive a meal, beverage and t-shirt for participating. Awards are given to our top riders and all participants are eligible to win prizes!
