When the Boiler Room opened in 2014, it seemed instantly cool. Eight years later and they still maintain that downtown vibe Broadway is known for. Located in the basement of the Loretta building, there are two ways to access it. Their preference is for customers to enter through the alley. They are also accessible by entering the building from Broadway and taking the elevator (through dinnertime).
I visited the Boiler Room late on a Saturday morning with a friend. The restaurant was moderately busy, but they greeted us right away. From beginning to end, our service was seamless. Everything from waters to the bill came out in a timely manner and they fulfilled all of our requests with a friendly smile. A little gossip could be heard behind the bar, but even that seemed to be lighthearted. My favorite part of the visit was hearing the kitchen staff occasionally break out in song.
The food was delicious. I ordered an iced tea and a Breakfast Sammy with fruit. My friend also ordered the Breakfast Sammy and enjoyed a virgin Bloody Mary. From the perfectly toasted croissant to the blueberry jalapeno jam, the sandwich was a tasty blend of savory and sweet. The fruit consisted of orange slices, grapes and melon and was a nice complement to the meal, but next time I plan to try the cheesy tots instead.
The Boiler Room prices are moderate and the menu is eclectic. The Scotch Eggs come highly recommended. All ages are welcome until 10pm. They do have private dining space available for reservation with a food and beverage minimum.
