SUMMARY:Reflections: a concert for flute\, piano\, marimba\, and recorders
DESCRIPTION:Musical inspiration can come from almost anywhere. Throughout history\, however\, there are a few topics that have inspired countless composers to write. One of those is water. In this concert\, the first in a four part series about the elements\, we will explore many of the ways in which water has been an inspiration across the centuries.\n\nOur concert will begin on a lake in the Northwoods of Minnesota with an original piece for soprano and alto recorder and piano. We will play several pieces about rain from different cultures and centuries to explore how different composers depict it including a modern piece influenced by the traditions of Japan and Indonesia\, a romantic piece illustrating a garden in the rain\, and another original piece Jared wrote portraying a storm. We will travel back to the Baroque era performing an original arrangement of Handel’s Water Music\, to the Age of Sail with a medley of sea shanties\, and back to the modern day with a new jazz piece by Jared depicting rapids on a river.\n\nUsing a range of instruments including flute\, piano\, marimba\, and recorder\, and a wide variety of styles\, there will be something for everyone as we tell part of the story of water.

SUMMARY:Trampled By Turtles with American Aquarium and Wild Horses
DESCRIPTION:Trampled by Turtles are from Duluth\, Minn.\, where frontman Dave Simonett initially formed the group as a side project in 2003. At the time\, Simonett had lost most of his music gear\, thanks to a group of enterprising car thieves who’d ransacked his vehicle while he played a show with his previous band. Left with nothing more than an acoustic guitar\, he began piecing together a new band\, this time taking inspiration from bluegrass\, folk and other genres that didn’t rely on amplification. Simonett hadn’t played any bluegrass music before\, and he filled his lineup with other newcomers to the genre\, including fiddler Ryan Young (who’d previously played drums in a speed metal act) and bassist Tim Saxhaug. Along with mandolinist Erik Berry and banjo player Dave Carroll\, the group began carving out a fast\, frenetic sound that owed as much to rock & roll as bluegrass. It wasn’t until 2008 and the band’s fourth release\, “Duluth”\, that TBT received recognition by the bluegrass community. “Duluth” peaked at number eight on the Billboard bluegrass chart and paved the way for a number of festival appearances. \nFor nearly two decades\, American Aquarium have pushed toward that rare form of rock-and-roll that’s revelatory in every sense. On their new album\, “The Fear of Standing Still”\, the North Carolina-bred band embody that dynamic with more intensity than ever before\, endlessly matching their gritty breed of country-rock with frontman B.J. Barham’s bravest and most incisive songwriting to date. As he reflects on matters both personal and sociocultural—e.g.\, the complexity of Southern identity\, the intersection of generational trauma and the dismantling of reproductive rights—American Aquarium instill every moment of “The Fear of Standing Still” with equal parts unbridled spirit and illuminating empathy.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Rock from the Heart concert will raise money and awareness for aortic health while spending the night rocking with multi-platinum recording artist\, SEBASTIAN BACH. \nRock from the Heart’s mission is to support families from diagnosis to recovery\, connecting them with resources and information that is often hard to find. Through concerts and education events\, Rock from the Heart uses music to inspire and provide hope to people affected by aortic disease. \nPete and Amy Johnson formed Rock from the Heart after Pete was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and aortic valve disease\, and they struggled to find consistent information on the disease. \n“Music brings people together\,” Pete and Amy said. “Awareness is key to survival. Rock from the Heart events help bring the condition to the forefront.” Rock from the Heart has been using music to inspire and bring hope to families affected by aortic disease since 2019. \nAs part of the Rock from the Heart tradition\, organization founder and survivor Pete Johnson performs in the opening band\, Aortic Fire. People living with heart disease witness a heart surgery survivor up on stage\, drumming a full set of rock and roll\, and they leave the event filled with hope that they\, too\, can lead a happy and healthy life after surgery. \nSebastian Bach has sold in excess of twenty million records worldwide as lead singer of his former band\, Skid Row\, and as a solo artist. Far from just being a multi-platinum recording artist\, he has expanded his career over the past decade to include a five-season recurring role on the hit series Gilmore Girls; voice-over work on SpongeBob SquarePants and Robot Chicken; starring roles on Broadway in Jekyll & Hyde\, The Rocky Horror Show\, and Jesus Christ Superstar; and appearances on ABC’s Sing Your Face Off\, the comedy series Trailer Park Boys\, MTV and VH1. In December 2016 he released his highly anticipated biography titled 18 and Life on Skid Row\, which details his life from his birth in the Bahamas to his teenage years in Canada to the music that rocks his life today.

The music in this year’s repertoire spans from her early songwriting days in the late 1960’s through her eighth studio album\, “Simple Things”\, which was released in 1977. \nNearly two dozen tunes in a 90-minute set will be presented by the Raspberry Jam Band\, whose current members include: Pat Lenertz (guitar\, vocals)\, Kari Marie (piano\, vocals)\, Jake Schaefbauer (guitar\, vocals)\, Bill Mohn (drums)\, Kris Ottem (bass)\, and guest vocalist Gina Powers. The band is pleased to annonce the return of the horns section on select tunes\, featuring Keith Wander (trumpet)\, Fred Haring (saxophone)\, and Steve Wallevand (trombone).
