Wine Class – Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Sauvignon has become so ubiquitous that it can often simply go by the name “Cab,” a shorthand that unfortunately short changes the other major grape with Cabernet in its name, Cabernet Franc. Genetically a parent to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc shares many of the characteristics that make Cabernet Sauvignon so popular but with a slightly more subtle and refined edge. This, plus its more finicky-in-the-field reputation, have left it a sorely underappreciated grape.

In this class, Anita Bender will take you through the tasting and examination of Cabernet Francs from many different places and winemakers. Expect to encounter the grape in its native France, as well as other European nations where it has spread as an international variety. Expect also to see New World examples, and see how this grape morphs beautifully to reflect where and how it is grown. We hope you will come away with a new appreciation for the other Cab!
