The very words “single malt” instantly conjure up an image of Scotch Whiskey that is sophisticated, respectable, even ancient. Yet while the Scots have laid a deep claim to whiskey made purely from malted barley, this style is produced around the world to great and increasing acclaim. Anywhere that barley grows or can be imported, producers are crafting this style of whiskey, sometimes with deep homage to Scotch and other times in styles unknown to those of the highlands.
