“Through My Father-in-Law’s Eyes” public reception

September 30, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free

“Through My Father-in-Law’s Eyes” by James Christie and Em Christie, a
photography exhibit now at Third Drop Coffee, 115 4th St S, Moorhead,
MN

Public reception: meet the photographers

It began with an accident: Em snapped a picture of James taking a
photo of a pinecone.

James originally hails from the greater London area, and his sister
remains in the region. To help bridge the distance, Em was trying to
photograph “James happy in his natural habitat” for his sister. When
the synchronicity with James’ pinecone photo became apparent, this
show began in complete secrecy. While on adventures with James, Em
photographed James taking pictures for two years – without his
knowledge. The show James and Em now jointly present to the public was
gifted to James on Christmas Day, 2021.

These candid long-shots of a photographer at work paired with the
photographer’s own images provide a unique look into this art form.
The bond between intergenerational in-laws with artistic inclinations
resonates throughout the exhibit.

James Christie has exhibited and sold his photography at
Fargo-Moorhead venues including Babb’s Coffee House and the Moorhead
Center Mall over the last several decades. Em Christie, who is married
to James’ son, has a long history in the arts, most notably writing,
theatre and rock painting, but they have never publicly exhibited
their photography. “Through My Father-in-Law’s Eyes” is James and Em’s
first artistic adventure together.
