Spirits Class – Caribbean Rum
The word “rum” first appeared on the Caribbean island of Barbados, where enterprising enslaved persons turned the waste products of the sugar industry into a world-class beverage. From these humble beginnings, thIS spirit spread to anywhere sugarcane was grown, and, later, to anywhere molasses was shipped. While today rum is a global industry, Caribbean locales still generate rums steeped in tradition and excellence.
In this class, you will taste and learn about rums made in different Caribbean nations. From the distinctive flavors of islands like Jamaica and Barbados to the entirely different agricole rhums of the French Islands to multi-country blends that reflect the spirits of the region as a whole, the Caribbean has a diverse set of flavors to offer the rum connoisseur.
