Explore the recipe of the renown cocktail book Smuggler’s Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki with Evan Christie

Since 2009, Smuggler’s Cove has been one of the premier Tiki Bars in the World. Run by Martin and Rebecca Cate, this San Francisco hot spot embodies the classic tradition of Tiki with a studious exactitude, while also embracing a serious approach to cocktails and rum. In 2016, the Cates made the world of the bar accessible to many more people by publishing Smuggler’s Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum,and the Cult of Tiki. This 352 page tome is an extensive guide to Tiki drinks new and old, rum production, and the history of Tiki culture.

 

In this class, we will explore some of the cocktails in this book. Expect balanced but ostentatious libations, both from Tiki’s long past and modern drinks from the minds of the book’s authors and their friends. Learn about how different styles of rums impact the flavors of drinks, and where the modern side of the tiki movement is headed. Join us in celebrating the slowly melting snows with some dreamy tropical concoctions!
