Concordia Theatre presents “THE RACE 2020”
Sat Oct 17, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Race, a new Concordia College production directed by Jon Micheels Leiseth, will be put on by the Theatre Art department on the third weekend of October. The Race will be in an online format, in respect of current COVID-19 precautions in place in Minnesota. The show moves above and beyond the complicated political climate of today’s elections in an irreverent and improvised sketch-style performance.
Take one-part game show, one-part “The Daily Show”, one-part interview, and one-part conversation and you have The Race 2020. This sometimes silly, frequently serious, often interactive streamed performance may be unlike any theatre experience you’ve ever had before. Originated by Sojourn Theatre and co-created with Georgetown University prior to the 2008 elections, the script is being revised and produced all over the United States prior to the 2020 elections. At a time when we really do need to talk about things political, the project shifts the conversation away from specific candidates and party affiliations to focus on leadership, itself: what do we seek in our elected leaders?

Concordia’s co-curricular theatre program is where students put what they’ve learned in the classroom to practice on and behind the stage. More than 250 students are involved in our productions each year. This year’s season includes The Race, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Dance Nation, Evelyn in Purgatory, and Carousel.
