Downtown Fargo Block Party Comes To Historic SoMA Business District This Weekend

The Fargo businesses South of Main Avenue (SoMA) have banded together to bring a free community event to downtown Fargo featuring some of the hottest live entertainment the area has to offer on Saturday, September 14th from 5 pm to 11 pm.

The SoMA Block Party will take place on Saturday September 14, 2019 from 5 to 11 pm.

The Cropdusters, Cupid’s Itch, JT Kennelly Band, and Hardwood Groove will be performing behind Wimmer’s Diamonds (who is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year), located just South of the intersection of Broadway and Main Ave. There will also be food available from Rhombus Guys, Texas Best BBQ, and Nichole’s Fine Pastry, as well as beverages available from Front Street Taproom.

SoMA is at the core of historic Downtown Fargo and is teeming with history. Early photos showing a tent village as the railroad bridge was being built in 1871. In 1880, SoMA was the most densely populated business district in Fargo. SoMA is also home to Fargo’s first Park (Island Park), first public pool, and an array of beautiful historic buildings including Dakota Business College, NP Depot, Unitarian Universalist Church, DeLendrecie building, the Christian Science Church, Cass County Court House, and many others.

In addition to the Block Party, the SoMA Business District has launched a business passport to encourage people to walk around the neighborhood, and visit some of the exquisite businesses, and check out the incredible architecture. Passports can be found at any of the 13 participating locations, located on Main Avenue and 8th Street. There are over $1,500 in giveaways to be given away at the Block Party to those who complete the passports, need not be present to win.
