A Guide To The Tenth Annual Unglued: Craft Fest At Plains Art

Regional crafters, artists and makers will take over the Plains Art Museum the weekend of February 21-22, 2020 for the 10th Annual Unglued: Craft Fest10th Annual Unglued: Craft Fest. The annual arts and crafts fair has become one of the region’s largest markets for handmade goods.

The festival truly has something for everyone with over 70 vendors on 3 floors of the museum. The fest is broken up into two days, with a Friday evening pre-event party from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the main show on Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tickets are required for the pre-party while the fest on Saturday is free.

Here are a few of the highlights to look for:

Workshops

All Saturday long, you’ll be able to take advantage of craft classes and most of them are free! Most of the workshops will take place in the Center for Creativity building which is connected to the museum through a skywalk on the 2nd floor. There are workshops that will appeal to young children, teens and adults.

Here are a few of our favorites:

At 10:00 am, join Baker Garden & Gift in the Center for Creativity to learn how to make Kokedama Moss Balls. Kokedama or “moss ball” is a tradition of Japanese gardening. Learn about and create your own hanging kokedama. Free for ages 16 and up.

At 1:00 pm in the Center for Creativity Studio 1, Crooked Lane Farm will lead a Mini Barn Quilts workshop. Barn quilts are painted, bold public art that celebrates farm and family life. They can be found on barns and buildings and offer a splash of color to any yard. The event is free for teens and adults and barn quilt kits will be available for sale during the workshop.

Try your hand at Woodcut Printmaking in the 3rd-floor main museum building near booth 33 at 2:00 pm. Learn the basics of carving, inking and printing with woodcuts. All materials to make a small, 2 inch x 2 inch print are included for this free workshop!
