“The Buddy Holly Story” Performers Bringing Tribute to Fargo Theatre

FARGO — A live performance titled “Buddy Holly: OH BOY!” is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Fargo Theatre. The show is a tribute to the music of rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly.

The performance features original cast members from the Ivey-award-winning stage production “Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story,” including Nicholas Freeman, Blake Foster, and Zach Spicer. Music for the show is directed and produced by Gary Rue, a theatrical composer and songwriter. The production is endorsed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison of The Crickets, Buddy Holly’s band.

The show is designed to be reminiscent of Holly’s 1959 “Winter Dance Party Tour.” The tour is historically significant to the Fargo-Moorhead area, as it was scheduled to make a stop in Moorhead, Minnesota. However, the concert never occurred. The tour’s planned destination in Moorhead was not reached due to a tragic plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, on February 3, 1959, which killed Holly and fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper.

The Fargo Theatre performance will include music from Valens and The Big Bopper in the first set. The second set will focus on Holly’s hits, such as “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be The Day,” and “Oh Boy,” performed by Freeman and backed by the Big Beat Band.

Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. Reserved seating starts at $50.50. A special online-only presale is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through JadePresents.com, by phone, or at the Tickets300 box office.
