At the December 27, 2022, Fargo City Commission meeting, commissioners voted to update The City of Fargo’s ordinance No. 5378 as it relates to Server Training. The requirement to complete Server Training now applies to all people involved in the stream of service of alcoholic beverages, including security. This signifies that managers, servers, security, bartenders, and door attendants are required to complete server training.
The new ordinance also includes the following changes:
- Server training is required to be completed prior to employment.
- Businesses are required to maintain and provide server training certificates upon request to the applicable agencies.
- Server training will no longer be provided in person.
Responsible Beverage Server Training, an online course provided by the North Dakota Safety Council, replaces the previously offered in-person classes instructed by The Fargo Police Department and facilitated by Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH). Individuals who complete the course are credentialed for three years. The online class is also acceptable for those seeking to renew their Server Training credentials.
