Downtown Halloween Guide 2018

‘Tis the season for toil and trouble, and there are plenty of spooky ways to celebrate in downtown Fargo. Whether you’re looking to bake spooky cupcakes, win killer prizes with your snazzy costume, dance your ghoulish little heart out or take in a scary flick, there’s a little bit of something for everyone this Halloween.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21
Spooky Ballets 2018
6-9pm | Fargo Theatre
Adults: $30 – $15
Seniors (65+): $28 – $13

Join FmBallet as they open their season with the thrilling Spooky Ballets. This season tells the family-friendly and playful story of Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a new dance work by FMBallet company member Camille Federowich, and a spook-filled piece by Ballet Mistress Ms. Lindsey Setzekorn. Dress up for the audience participant costume contest. There will be a variety of age groups and even a group contest. No cost to enter. Concession packages will be available as well. 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26
Classic Film Series: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

It’s that time of year again for you to shiver with antici….. Come do the Time Warp with us for the Fargo Theatre’s annual screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  As always, there will be a costume contest at 10:45pm so be sure to show up in your finest fishnets or lab coat for a chance to win prizes. Props and participation are not only allowed, but encouraged! There will be a limited number of prop bags sold at the door, but if you bring your own, please refrain from bringing rice, lighters, hot dogs or confetti. 

Rapptor’s Halloween Bash with Pounds

Join our managing editor Erica Rapp and Pounds for a Halloween bash that’s going to be filled with plenty of spooky activities. Vegan Jell-o shots, spooky drinks and a live DJ will be happening all night, and be sure to be there by 12:30am for the costume contest. $150 Pounds gift card for 1st place, $50 gift card for 2nd. Dress to impress, ya’ll. 

Mr. Kingsmen’s Halloween Show

Come out and enjoy spooky tricks and treats at this Halloween drag show– bound to be a ghoulish good time. Doors open at 8:30pm and show starts at 9:30pm.

Creatively Kids: Sugar Skulls

These social painting parties are a fun, relaxing environment to enjoy chatting with friends while expressing your creativity, and you don’t have to worry about the cleanup or setup. No artistic ability is needed as the staff walks you through everything step-by-step. This class is open to ages 6+. Doors open a half hour prior, and be sure to register early. Cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours prior to the event. 

girlwithapiano Halloween Piano Hour
8-10pm | Rosey’s Bistro
Kick off your Halloween weekend with some food and drink from this finest bistro and also enjoy the fine aural tones of authentic acoustic piano sound. Local singer/songwriter and pianist Kari Marie, aka girlwithapiano (The Human Element, The Gina Powers Band), is pleased to be tickling the ivories on a festive Friday night. Enjoy two full sets of popular standards, piano instrumentals, original girlwithapiano tunes, and improvisational delights. Rosey’s is family-friendly, but alcohol is for 21+. 

Salsa/Bachata Halloween Dance Party

Come show off your halloween costume and dance skills. This event is for all levels and skills of dance, and beginners are welcome. 8-8:45pm basic salsa lessons, 8:45-9:15pm basic bachata lessons, 9:15pm dance social. Drinks will be available at the bar and awards will be given for best costume.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27
Halloween Pub Crawl

Since adults don’t do trick-or-treating, they do pub crawls. Get ready for this Halloween Pub Crawl sponsored by Bud Light. It’s free to attend, and you can start at any of the pub crawl locations to get your mug filled for just $5.25, with $3.25 refills at participating locations: Dempsey’s, Fort Noks, Sports Bar, The Old Broadway, Rooters, The Bomb Shelter, Pickled Parrot, Sidestreet Grille & Pub. 

The Dank Halloween

These Grand Forks natives are ready to rock your spooky socks off with various tunes of funk, soul, blues, dance, fusion, folk, bluegrass, rock, classic rock, oldies, pop and more. Be sure to dress up! 

Halloween Goth Dance Party
10pm | The Aquarium
21+
Harness your dark energy and be prepared to get your groove on! DJ Oblivion of Black Ring Rituals will be busting out some darkwave, industrial, EBM and aggrotech to celebrate the spooky season. Free admission.

The 3rd St. Blues Band Halloween Party
10pm | Dempsey’s
The 3rd St. Blues band will be playing all your favorite party tunes. Get ready to jam your heart out in your best costume.  

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29
Cleverly Themed Trivia: The Nightmare Before Christmas
8pm | Sidestreet
Two Lanterns Trivia is paying tribute to this classic Tim Burton film. Winners have the chance to get free drinks and more. Round 1: Nightmare, Round 2: Christmas, Round 3: The Nightmare Before Christmas. 

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30
Hocus Pocus Trivia

Over on the downtown Moorhead side, trouble’s going to be brewing with Hocus Pocus film trivia by Red River Trivia. Round winners will win free drinks, and the champions will score a gift card. 2-for-1 drinks also starts right after trivia.

Monsters and Mummies Cupcake Class

Get your spook on and flex those creative muscles in this fun baking class Each participant or pair will get one dozen cupcakes in vanilla bean and chocolate and instructions on how to create your very own set of (not-so) scary cupcakes just in time for Halloween. Libby Martin of Libby’s Cupcakes Etc. will show you several different ways to create these adorable monsters and mummies using buttercream-filled pastry bags, candy accents, and plenty of creative freedom. Don’t “goblin” them up too quick! 

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31
Aqua Halloween Cover Show

Live music and costume contest with cover tunes by SuperCruiser as The Cure, Pretty Hardly as The Replacements, Gneil as My Bloody Valentine and Dawn Dockin’ & The Sperry Barrys. 

Monsters Ball
7pm | Sanctuary Events Center

Join Monsters Ball presented by Grindflicks, Sanctuary Events Center and Jade Presents for what is bound to be a graveyard smash with a special screening of the Grindflicks cult classic horror comedy The Monster Squad. Audience participation is encouraged. A costume contest will take place, along with games, beer activities and a dance party starting at 9:30pm. 

Strange & Creepy Vinyl Night
7-11pm | Front Street Taproom
Things are going to get down right chilling in Fargo’s only exclusively local taproom. Strange and creepy jams, juicy IPAs, malty porters and more will make for a solid prelude to any ludicrously wild late night. Vinyl DJ Castle Danger will be hitting the dual turntables with intermittent guests all night long. Enjoy $2 Grain Belt pounders and $4 pints of Dark Infusion from Summit Brewing Company.

HalloWeenFest: A Tribute to the Music of Ween
8pm | Sidestreet
Local bands Kapeesh, The Human Element, Pat Lenertz Band and San Haven Chuckle will be paying tribute to the music of one of their and many’s favorite band, Ween. 

Haunted Mall
5-7pm | Moorhead Center Mall
Calling all little goblins and ghouls for an evening of trick-or-treating in a safe, controlled, and fun environment with the annual Haunted Mall.
Activities planned include trick-or-treating throughout the mall, scary and not-so-scary spaces, pumpkin decorating, a photo booth, and a variety of crafts and hands-on activities for kids and families. Admission is free.

Halloween at The Bomb Shelter
8pm | The Bomb Shelter 
Enjoy $7 all-you-can-drink taps and wells or 2-for-1s all night long. DJ KC Vine will be turning spooky tunes starting at 9pm and there will be a costume contest with the chance to take home $100. Dress your best and be prepared for a haunting good time. 

Halloween Candlelit Yoga
7-8pm | Downtown Yoga Fargo

Set to music and lit by only candles, this slow-flow class will build heat, strength, and flexibility while allowing your mind to achieve deeper meditation thanks to the darkness. Special attention is paid to the alignment of the physical form & focusing on engaging your breath while in poses. Yogis will leave feeling relaxed and renewed. All skills welcome. 

BP! Presents: Tim Jones’ “The Purge”
9pm | Pickled Parrot
Get your night kicked off at the Pickled Parrot with “The Purge: Comedy Show” with local celebrity and funnyman Tim Jones as the host. Win $20 if you’ve got the best costume of the night. $4 32oz. jars of domestic beer will also be on special for the evening.
